Blake Independent Financial Planning sponsors Barnsley interactive Arts educational programme

The Arts In Action programme has been developed between educationalists, Barnsley Council and experts in their field, as a series of interactive events specifically engineered to demonstrate art in action to children between 11 and 19. Schools throughout the Barnsley Borough have been included as well as others from Wakefield, Leeds, Rotherham, Sheffield and Doncaster.

Having identified particularly strong home grown talent across a broad spectrum of the arts historically, the Action programme has been steadfastly working towards placing arts firmly back on the agenda in the educational system in the area.

As one of a select number of sponsors, Martin Blake from Blake Independent Financial Planning Ltd is particularly proud of his association with the programme and said 'Education is a subject I have a particular interest in having school age children who are keen to develop their skills and experience. Also as an employer I am constantly looking for the talent of the future in order to strength Blakes business potential .'

To achieve the Arts in Action aims, a number of successful artists including Joanne Harris (Author), Dr Joanne Fletcher (Archaeologist) John Godber (Playwright), Katherine Kelly (Actor) and Brian Turner (Chef) have given their time voluntarily to engage in unique interactive activities with pupils, in the hope that these individuals will explore the opportunities open to them and that a simple introduction will act as a springboard which will provide pupils with the confidence to express themselves and their creative abilities.

One of the key projects was provided by internationally renowned sculptor, Graham Ibberson, who undertook a 3D project, creating a life size bronze statue of another Barnsley Boy, Dickie Bird, one of the nation's sporting heroes. Martin adds, 'I had a particular interest in seeing the development of the Dickie Bird statue and it was an privilege to see him honoured in this manner by his home town. The statue now resides only a short distance from our offices and is a rapidly growing tourist attraction which many visitors pass whilst travelling to see us. I have great pride in being able to tell others that we were part of the process behind its creation and that the whole programme is an excellent opportunity to enthuse and engage our artists of tomorrow.'
