Blakes - Barnsley cancer aftercare information

Blakes get their glad rags on and support Fashion Show for Barnsley Cancer Aftercare.

Blake Independent Financial Planning was very proud to sponsor a fundraising event in conjunction with Barnsley Cancer Aftercare, a locally based group that raises funds to provide services for patients diagnosed with the condition or continuing their treatment and into remission.

The fashion show was held at the recently reopened Civic Centre in Barnsley town centre on the 3rd and 4th November. Each event sat 350 on both nights and such was the demand for tickets that both nights were completely sold out.

There were 35 models in total giving their time each evening and all had either had, or were still under treatment for, an existing condition. Of the number of models, 7 were men and 3 were teenagers.

The fundraising team an Barnsley Cancer Aftercare had put a great deal of effort into engaging with the local community with the upshot being that most of the clothing modelled both nights, were items donated by local clothing retailers.

The format of both evening's featured eight scenes ranging from designer wear to work wear with additional; assistance from a local dance school who provided energetic interludes between the segments.

Nicola Haycock, Barnsley Cancer Aftercare's Secretary commented that the group had been very pleasantly surprised by the support shown by local businesses in the town area. "The support offered by both retailers and the two paying audiences on the 3rd and 4th was terrific and with the benefit of hindsight we would have easily filled another evening show."

Whilst the fashion show was a bit of fun, its outcome was to capture some serious funding which will allow these much needed services to continue."

Notes::

Barnsley Cancer Aftercare is a local registered charity which is run by cancer sufferers. The organisation raises funds to give to other cancer sufferers. Last year a complementary therapist was employed for one day per week and was based at the chemotherapy unit at Barnsley District General Hospital.
